What are Composite Veneers?

A true blending of artistic talent and technical expertise, composite veneering (also known as resin veneers or dental bonding) is the process a dentist can use to of improve the appearance of teeth by building up thin layers of tooth-coloured composite resin. This material is similar to the resin used in tooth-coloured fillings.

A layer of soft composite resin is carefully applied by hand and shaped directly onto each tooth, and each layer is then hardened or ‘cured’ using a special light. After curing, the material is strongly bonded to the tooth, and becomes durable much like natural tooth tissue.

As the dentist has full control over the thickness and colour of the material, the end result can be a beautifully natural restoration, which can change the overal shape, size, colour and even the appearance of gaps or spacing between teeth.

A true aesthetic dentist will aim to recreate the texture and lustre and colouration of natural teeth.

How long do Composite Veneers last?

This is an understandably common question with many factors effecting the answer. In short, a well cared for composite restoration can last a lifetime. However like our natural teeth, they can be chipped or damaged by accidents or trauma, show signs of wear or poor hygiene, or even break when biting down on unexpectedly hard foods.

With proper care and maintaining good oral hygeine with a recommended check-up routine, composite veneers can last for many years.

Thankfully, should a composite veneer ever suffer any damage, it can easily and quickly be repaired by a dentist on the spot, and unlike porcelain veneers, there is no need for new impressions to be taken or time spent waiting for a dental lab to fabricate a replacement veneer.

Which of my dental concerns can
Composite Veneers address?

Composite Veneers can be used to address a variety of aesthetic concerns, and can also restore damaged and worn teeth.

  • Colour - Composite resins come in a range of natural shades which can complement or improve your existing tooth colour.
  • Shape - Building
  • Size - Composite resin can be used to lengthen teeth, as well reducing the space between teeth.
  • Gaps - Spacing
  • Alignment – Crooked Teeth
